Milestone Ministry

Our lives are filled with milestones, and at First Lutheran Church, we celebrate faith milestones each year. A faith milestone is a marker along life's journey that says, "This is something important and God is here, too." Marking a milestone is a biblically-based spiritual practice for both home and congregation. It helps all generations recognize God IS the central core of their lives every day.

Christian Education

Three Year Olds and their Families: “3 For Heaven Sake” is offered to 3 year old children and their parents the 3rd Sunday of each month (September through May). Parents and children spend a portion of the time together completing a hands-on Bible activity and then separate. Parents meet with a Parent Facilitator where discussion is focused around the topic of parenting preschoolers faithfully. Children stay with the child facilitator to learn Bible songs, eat snack, play games, and hear Bible stories.

Pre-K (age 4) through Sixth Grade: Beginning with Rally Day each September and moving through weekly class sessions, the fellowship, fun, and learning never end. Throughout the school year TLC (Teaching the Love of Christ) classes gather together on Wednesdays and Sundays to learn the good news about Jesus. Wednesday TLC classes are held from 5:15-6:00 pm, followed by a family worship service. Sunday TLC classes are held from 10:00-11:00am, right after Sunday morning worship. We use a variety of learning and teaching methods so that students can “experience” central B ible stories.

7th and 8th Graders: Grades 7 and 8 focus on confirmation. Confirmation classes are held on Wednesdays nights from 6:30-7:45 pm. Pastoral instruction, combined with small class interaction, help prepare our youth for this important step in their faith life.

Youth and Family Ministry

Ministry for 3rd – 6th Grade: Our ministry for upper elementary/middle school youth consists of: Little League’s Wild Wednesdays and G-3—Liturgical Dancers. Of course, there are the much anticipated monthly events of learning, fellowship, and outreach. Summer highlights include many choices at Shetek Lutheran Ministries in Slayton for Bible-camp and our summer Day Camp with the Shetek Staff right here at our church. Not to mention that we are always up for little outings to get ice cream or French fries and to visit.

Ministry for Junior High (grades 7-8): Our junior high ministry focus is on fellowship and developing relationships. Junior High ALIVE is a time for conversation, study, games, devotions, guest speakers, etc. Monthly activities include lock-ins, gatherings, fellowship, service projects, and outreach. Summer opportunities include participating in one unique Bible Camp — Klein Ranch in north central South Dakota.
